Writing Samples

Through the years my writing has been published in employee newsletters, magazines, newspapers and newsletters for specific audiences.  The writing is always done for a specific audience and the research and language is tailored for that audience. Here are some examples:

From 4 Your Info: “The Gift of Chocolate” (ages 6-12) The Louisville Courier-Journal:

“Growers pick the ripe cacao pods from the tree, splitting them open to reveal a sticky white pulp surrounding the seeds. The beans are removed from the pulp,  cleaned, fermented for five to seven days, shipped to factories for processing into cocoa butter, and cocoa powder.”

Published in Majic (a publication of Louisville’s Fund for the Arts) March 2001:

From “The Humana Festival of New American Plays celebrates its 25th season of showcasing new productions.”

From: “Wigwam Village offers chance to fulfill a childhood dream for many travelers” published in The Southwest Newsweek (Louisville, KY) July 12, 1995:
Many travelers have memories of a “no vacancy” sign in front of the Village, and Tony and Beth Rutherford were two who recall wanting to stay there a number of times when all the tepees were occupied. Two years ago they bought Wigwam Village and now they can be guaranteed a bed in a tepee.”

Published in Konnection (employee newsletter for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet), January 2004:

Nightly advertising on the “Truckin’ Bozo” radio program has greatly increased the number of transponders being used in commercial vehicles on Kentucky roadways. Since beginning the ad campaign last April, 1499 new vehicles have been enrolled in the program.

Published in Pathways (Brooklawn Newsletter – Louisville, KY) in Summer 1999 edition:
